Black Friday 2018 Ads: Target Vs Walmart Biggest Deals

This post was created by the Contributor in partnership with BestBlackFriday.com, which specializes in holiday season sales. The deals highlighted within this post were independently selected and do not contain affiliate links.

In early November
Target
posted its 47-page Black Friday ad and it has been the benchmark for rivals to beat. But now
Walmart
has revealed its 32-page Black Friday ad and it’s mouthwatering. So it is time to compare these two Black Friday heavyweights and find out whose Black Friday sales pack the bigger punch…

Note: This is a continuation of my Vs series based on the ad scans from major tech merchants. Together with my holiday season sales partner BestBlackFriday.com, I am comparing the Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2018 deals from the biggest retailers including Amazon, Best Buy and Kohl’s. My Kohl’s Vs Target comparison is already live.

Walmart Black Friday 2018 sales are its biggest everWalmart

Where Walmart Black Friday Beats Target Black Friday 2018

Online Sale Starts Sooner: As detailed in Walmart’s Black Friday ad, it will begin online sale on Wednesday, November 21st at 10pm ET. Target’s online sale does not begin until Thanksgiving.

Xbox One X Deals: Walmart is offering Xbox One X 1TB Consoles for $399 (save $100) (see ad scan deal). It is also offering all other Xbox One X Bundles for $70 off (see ad scan deal). Target does not have an Xbox One X deal this year.

Nintendo Switch Bundle Deal: Walmart is offering the Nintendo Switch with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle for $299.00 (see ad scan deal). Target has the same bundle for $299.99 (see ad scan deal), which is $0.99 more expensive. While it is less than a dollar difference, Walmart still has the better deal.

iPhone Deals: Walmart is providing a free $300 gift card with activation of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR (see ad scan deal). It is also providing a free $400 gift card with activation of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8+ or iPhone X (see ad scan deal). Target is only offering a free $250 gift card with qualified activation on iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max (see ad scan deal) and a $150 Target Gift Card with qualified activation of the iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 8 or iPhone X on Verizon, Sprint or AT&T (see ad scan deal).

Google Home Hub: Walmart is selling the Google Home Hub + a Free $10 VUDU Credit and 6 Months Free YouTube Premium for $99 (save $50) (see ad scan deal). Target is also selling the Google Home Hub for $99 (see ad scan deal), but it is not including any extras.

Where Target Black Friday Beats Walmart Black Friday 2018

Thanksgiving Opening Time: As detailed in the Target Black Friday ad, it will open on Thanksgiving at 5pm, which is an hour earlier than last year. Walmart’s Black Friday ad confirms it will stick to a 6pm Thanksgiving opening.

Free Shipping: Target will offer free two-day shipping with no minimum on the majority of items in its Black Friday sale this year. Last year, Target only offered free standard shipping. Walmart will offer free two-day shipping on orders of $35 or more for the duration of the holiday season. While many of the items in its Black Friday sale will qualify, some of the cheaper ones will not.

Target REDcard 5% Discount: Target REDcard holders receive an additional 5% off orders every single day. Signing up for a REDcard is free, and it is a great way to save even more money during Black Friday. Additionally, REDcard holders get early access to select Black Friday deals on November 21st. Walmart does not have an equivalent card, so Target is the winner.

Better Xbox One S 1TB Bundle Deal: Walmart is offering the Xbox One S 1TB Minecraft Creators Bundle for $199 (see ad scan deal).Target is offering the same bundle for $0.99 more (see ad scan deal), but it is also including a free gift card worth $20. Essentially, you are paying $0.99 for a $20 Target gift card.

More TV Deals: Target has over 20 HDTV deals this year, while Walmart only has seven. You could argue Walmart may have a better deal or two, but Target offers way more variety. Target’s deal on the Element 55-inch Smart 4K UHD TV for only $199.99 (save $180) (see ad scan deal) remains one of the top bargains of the season. Walmart’s featured TV deal is a 65-inch Class 4K Roku Smart TV for $398 (see ad scan deal)
